Day One, Introduction

Our job and duty as mothers and wives can be a lot for us to deal with. Everyone is relying on us, especially the little children. We are the stability of the home. Even when everything is falling apart around us (and there will be times when this happens) the family looks to us for stability, again, especially the little children. We are their foundation and rock.

If we crash then the family is hugely affected. It’s important to keep up your relationship with your husband during this time as you will need his strength to get back on track. It isn’t essential but you will recuperate faster if you have him by your side. During stressful times you are each other’s rock.

When times are tough on us we need to especially take good care of ourselves. I’m not referring to getting your nails done either. This is ‘fluff’ in my eyes. It may help superficially but it isn’t going to solve the problem as you need to address the source of the drain.

My Own Experiences Feeling Drained/Depressed/Unmotivated

I am easily susceptible to feeling emotionally swamped, particularly after having a baby, although during pregnancy can be a tough time for me as well.

I usually don’t want to do anything. I get further behind with my daily lists, get further discouraged, and then, of course, want to do even less. It’s a sad spiral that will seemingly never fix or improve.

I feel unwanted and unworthy of my family. Why would my husband want someone that is so difficult to be around? When I’m always grumpy and yelling at the children why would they want anything to do with me either. I usually have no patience with them.

It hurts your relationships with your family, friends, and your children. If you do nothing, it will especially hurt your relationship with your husband. My husband was always telling me he was worried about me. He never really said what he was worried about but I presume he was worried I’d leave him and the family.

However, with no motivation to do anything and being depressed about everything I wouldn’t have gone anywhere. I wouldn’t have known how to even find the energy.

This is all in your control. Some people may need medical help. However, I think that the majority of women just need to know what to do and then just do it.

Don’t think about what needs to be done. Just take it one step at a time. Each step you take will help you improve so you can take the next step. It can be done.

Homework:

1) Buy yourself a Gratitude Journal. I will share what I do with these later on in the course. If you don’t want to buy this journal you can also use a spiral notebook of your choice. Just make sure it is yours and it’s specified for this purpose alone. Amazon has a ton for sale! You can find one that is perfect for you!

2) Get a one inch binder for you to keep your workbook pdf’s in. Each lesson you’ll receive something to print out and read to help you with your daily lesson. Keep them all in one place so you can refer back to them.

Day 2, Nutrition

God gives you only one body.  Being that it is a temple of the Holy Ghost you have a moral obligation to take care of it.  To do this your body must be provided with the proper nutrients for energy and to efficiently function.

Healthy eating is where it all begins.

By eating the foods that God has provided for us, whole foods, we increase the likelihood of actually assimilating the nutrients provided to us.

I consider processed and artificial foods as poison to our bodies.  Throw it out!!  It isn’t food!  It’s just empty calories helping us gain fatty weight.  It doesn’t nourish our body with those fake vitamins they add to the ingredient list.  And, in my opinion, since it isn’t even food then it isn’t considered wasting.  So, we don’t need to worry about that argument now do we!  🙂

If you’re worried about saving money and think you need to eat this artificial food to do this then think again.  Eating this stuff costs us our health and therefore costs us money.  Get rid of it!

Look at the ingredient list of the products you’re considering eating.  If you don’t recognize the ingredient as something that can be grown it is probably too processed for your body to use.  Examples of this would include pasta, most canned or boxed ‘meals’, and, honestly, most of the food in the center aisles of your grocery store.

It’s time to rethink how we fuel ourselves.  Whole foods is the best approach, of course, since this is the food God made for our bodies.  However, sometimes we need a little extra boost.

This is where vitamins and supplements come in.

If you feel like you aren’t nutritionally getting enough then you need to supplement .  This is very important because if our bodies don’t have the proper fuel they can’t run efficiently.  This includes our brains and emotions.

The chemical makeup of our food is so far from the original that it doesn’t contain the same components anymore, principally due to pesticide use and commercial farming practices, namely GMO’s.

There are two ways you can combat this problem.  You can grow your own food, of course, (heirloom varieties are best),and/or you can buy organic.  There are more nutrients this way.

Another option is to supplement with vitamins.  The one I usually use (and my husband always uses) is All-One powder vitamins.  We prefer this brand because it is already broken down (in powder form) and is very complete.  Being very high in B vitamins helps us get immediate energy as well.

When we forget to take these vitamins my husband tends to get a ‘fog’.  He doesn’t work as well and loses all motivation.  Start giving his these vitamins and it changes everything.

Another supplement we like is called Super Greens, (a.k.a. Green Goop).  My husband loves this stuff, and I drink it because it’s healthy.  Haha!!  It’s not that it tastes bad it’s just that I’ve found very few green supplements that taste yummy to me.  However, I still drink it because I know I should.

Vitamins and supplements take the nutritional imbalances our modern food has and makes it into complete nutrition.

And last, but definitely not least, we need to drink more water.  Our bodies can’t function without it!

First off, it provides proper lubrication.  Without water we risk constipation.  All that ‘stuff’ sits in our intestines and basically rots.  Can you imagine what this does to our bodies?

It poisons us and makes us feel physically sick.  It also gives us bad breath (huge sign of constipation) and gives us a puffy tummy, due to bloating.  Now, when your tummy sticks out what does that do to your self esteem?  Simply put, if I wake up feeling fat my day is off to a pretty bad start.  Drinking plenty of water helps avoid all of this.

Water also cleans out the impurities in your cells that are causing your body not to function at its best.  And, if you drink more than one cup of coffee try to cut back a little.  One cup should really be your max, with no coffee being ideal.

Of course, I’m a mother and I understand the enjoyment of a morning cup of coffee.  I didn’t give my coffee up.  I don’t think you have to either.

I recommend you measure out how much water you need to drink in your day first thing in the morning.  The proper amount is your weight divided by two, measured in ounces (for example, 150 pounds, divided by 2, would be 75 ounces of water per day).  Then drink up!  You have all day to spread it out.  Herbal teas can be part of your water count but nothing else.

Homework:

1) Buy a water container, if you don’t already have something.  A couple quart canning jars work well if you don’t want to spend money on something.  I use one of these and just refill it 2-3 times throughout the day (with some lemon juice added, for flavor).

2)  Decide what vitamins and supplements you believe your body needs and get them purchased.  We use All-One Vitamins and Super Greens primarily, although sometimes I’ll add other vitamins depending on my current needs (pregnancy, etc.).
