Hi! We are the Waggoner’s and we are a family with 13 children (we keep Mom and Dad locked in the closet) that we homeschool and raise. The goal of this website is to show you that raising a large family is super fun and not as hard as it seems.
The ages of our children range from 2 months to 22 years old. Life in our house starts at 5:00 in the morning and ‘officially’ ends at around 10:30 pm. While our home is never quiet or still at any time of the day, we are usually able to hear ourselves over each other (unless the piano is being played).
Our Animals
We live on a two-acre wannabe farm in a house that is under 2000 square feet (by choice!). I say wannabe farm because Mom tries to make us live like country folk/farmers. We have more rabbits than we can keep track of, chickens that everyone secretly hates (except Mom, of course), one dog, two cats (more animals that we all secretly hate, except Mom and Catherine), a wild raccoon that thinks he should be a member of our family, and a couple of exotic birds. As hard as it is, we happen to have more animals than children.
Our Faith
We are a traditional Roman Catholic family that have been raised in the Catholic Faith since day one. Even before we learn to read we are taught the basics of the Catholic Faith with most of us having received our First Holy Communion by the age of seven. Our lives and our schooling are centered around Our Faith and we use either our own personally designed school curriculum or we buy a curriculum that we go over and either approve or supplement as we wish.
Our Morning Routine
We’re also a family of routine. Every morning at 5:00 (can be earlier, can be later, depending on whether or not the aroma of coffee is in the air) at least half the family will be up to drink coffee, read our books, write on our blogs, and even start our day’s schoolwork.
While the other half usually starts getting up at around 6:00, that doesn’t stop the desperate rush for the coffee that is quickly being diminished in quantity. And, unfortunately, if you get up past 7:00 then you can’t any have coffee. It’s not like there’s any coffee left by then anyway, though. We all are, what you would call… coffee fanatics.
Our Hobbies
We like outdoorsy hobbies like half-marathons, hiking, biking, hunting, shooting (both bows and guns), camping, gardening, etc…, Each kid has their own personal hobby, as well. For instance, our fourth oldest, Christina, has the current odd hobby of doing calculus right now, even though she’s graduated. It’s an odd pastime but she seems to be enjoying herself.
